Explanation:

Acorns is an FDIC-insured investing site. They invest your money for you. They also give referrers pretty big payouts on a weekly basis. For example, one week referrers will be offered $825 to refer four people, and the next it'll be $1000 for five. So if you're careful about getting your sign-ups done correctly you can make bank, but it's known that Acorns is prone to withholding referral bonuses for finicky reasons, so I'm not saying count on this. For the purposes of this article and my bank account, I will use my referral link. If you use it, thank you. IF YOU WANT TO SIGN UP, TEXT ME FIRST AT 401-527-3742. IF YOU DON'T I WON'T BE ABLE TO PAY YOU. This is because the process must be done exactly right and I must be in touch with you to confirm it is. Please don't sign up without texting me, but even if you do, it won't be all for naught because you will now be able to do the exact same referral process I'm about to lay out.

To understand exactly the referral program works, let's look at the official Acorns website, found at: 

https://www.acorns.com/ref-terms/. Here's a copy-pasted segment describing what referrers get and how:

The Reward and Eligibility for the Referring Client

Promotional Period means completing registration between 12:00 am PST 6/30/2025 and 11:59 pm PST 7/6/2025 

When you refer 4 of Potential New Client(s), each of whom (1) is a Potential New Client; (2) uses your personal invitation code or referral link that you shared with them during the Promotional Period when they sign up for a first-time Acorns subscription; (3) sets up an Acorns User Account during the applicable Promotional Period; (4) completes an initial deposit or investment (excluding Round-Ups® Deposits) of $5 or more in their Acorns Invest Account from a linked bank account funding source within fourteen (14) days after the end of the Promotional Period; and (5) maintains their account in Good Standing at all times relevant to the Promotion, you will receive a $1,000 bonus investment of Reward Shares by Acorns in your Acorns Invest account (the “Bonus”).

So referrers must:

1) Have the required number of new Acorns clients sign up using their link.

2) Have clients invest $5.00 or more from a linked -- and verified -- bank into an Acorns Invest Account.

3) Have clients keep their accounts in good standing for 30-45 days, at Acorns' discretion.*

4) Hope Acorns doesn't refuse to pay for some reason. 

*30-45 days is based on the following copy-pasted segment, also found at the aforementioned link:

Reward Shares are typically deposited within 30-45 days of the date the Referred Client’s initial deposit is settled into their Acorns Invest Account.

So take heed: I as a referrer won't be able to pay you for at least that duration, or potentially longer because there's word that Acorns is stripping referrers of their bonuses for withdrawing them too rapidly. That's because the bonuses are in the form of "bonus investments" in the Acorns account and they don't want you un-investing too fast considering they are an investing site. Be advised before signing up: if you're gonna miss that $5 required investment in the next 30-45 days at minimum, don't do it. You can always withdraw that investment so you're not exactly spending money, but if you want the whole process to work, you cannot withdraw. So be careful with your $5 and decide whether it's worth the wait.

If you're okay with investing $5 for that duration and not taking it out once, then here are the sign-up instructions. Again, text me at 401-527-3742 before signing up so I know you're doing it. If you don't, I won't be able to pay you. I need to know who my referrals are and be in touch to make sure you've signed up correctly.

Step 1: Sign up with my link: (intentionally not listed right now, sorry, too busy!)

Remember to write down your login information once you set it. You’ll need your SSN, and your bank info. Either link your bank using Plaid, or enter routing/account numbers manually. Acorns is owned by PayPal and has over 1 million 5-star reviews; it’s completely safe.

Step 2: Answer setup questions.

Most questions are about investment goals — these don’t matter, just get through them. Next, choose the Bronze Plan ($3.00/month). First month is free - I’ll let you know when to close the account before month two. If you get charged the $3.00, I’ll add it to your payout.

Step 3: Two important questions Acorns asks at the end of setup.

Question 1: “Do you want to set up a weekly investment?” —> Tap Skip in the top right. Question 2: “Would you like to make a one-time investment?” —> Deposit $5.00. This gets sent back to your bank when you close the account so you’re not really even spending money :)

Step 4: Download the app and log in.

Go to Money Hub and take a screenshot of your $5.00 deposit (should say “Pending”). Go to your Profile > Message Center > Verify your email if asked > Take a screenshot showing your Message Center is empty. Send me both screenshots to confirm your setup is complete. No identifying account information need be displayed, just what's requested. Thank you.

Step 5: Confirm deposits.

Acorns usually deposits two small amounts into your bank (like $0.01 and $0.03) to verify your account. This may show up in your Message Center. I’ll ask you to check and send a screenshot when that happens. Again, no account information should be visible, just the transactions themselves. 

Step 6: Don't touch the money for a month.

In order for me to receive payment from Acorns for referring you, and thus for me to be able to pay you, you must have a $5.00 balance or greater for the duration of the month. Just don't touch your account. Do nothing.

Step 7: Earn.

You’ll make $XXX from me, $5.00 from Acorns for signing up, and you'll get your $5.00 back when you close your account. $XXX profit. I can pay you because I get paid $XXX by Acorns for referring three people. Proof of this is found on Acorns' official website, here: https://www.acorns.com/ref-terms/. Control+F for "June Referral Bonus" and you'll see two offers referrers are given. I was given the $XXX for three people offer.
